SOLIMIDE Liquid Nitrogen Test under Cryogenic Temperatures

Transcript: SOLIMIDE® Liquid Nitrogen Test under Cryogenic Temperatures

SOLIMIDE® Foam is a lightweight, open-cell polyimide foam originally designed to improve safety and reduce weight in early spacecraft. It is extremely lightweight, fire resistant, and non-toxic.

Liquid nitrogen is capable of freezing large objects in seconds, making them very brittle and easy to break or shatter.

SOLIMIDE® 60 Second Liquid Nitrogen Test

SOLIMIDE® has excellent performance across temperature extremes

It maintains flexibility and resiliency even at cryogenic temperatures, while competitive material become brittle. Densified SOLIMIDE® 60 Second Liquid Nitrogen Test.

These cryogenic properties make SOLIMIDE® unique as an extremely reliable foam damper, as well as an ideal thermal and acoustic insulator, heat shield, or air blocker in harsh environments.

SOLIMIDE® Cryogenic VO

Transcript: SOLIMIDE® Cryogenic VO

SOLIMIDE® Foams remain functional when exposed to extremes of cold and heat that would degrade competitive polymer foams. The foam maintains flexibility even at cryogenic temperatures.

SOLIMIDE® Exposed to Flame VO

Transcript: SOLIMIDE® Exposed to Flame VO

Inherently non-flammable, SOLIMIDE® Foams emit virtually no smoke or incapacitating toxic byproducts when exposed to open flame.

Gasoline was used to demonstrate SOLIMIDE® Foam’s qualities under extreme conditions. SOLIMIDE® parts in a gas fire. Foam will not combust while gas burns off.

SOLIMIDE® chars instead of burning emits very little smoke when exposed to flame and acts as a flame barrier in the event of a catastrophic event.

Self-extinguishing SOLIMIDE® will char but not ignite, creating a flame barrier.

SOLIMIDE® Foam vs Competitive Foam

This insulator with excellent safety characteristics gives passengers, crew or consumers precious extra seconds to safely evacuate while preventing secondary injuries like smoke toxicity the competitive material immediately combusts and emits high levels of toxic smoke burning the sample when directly exposed to flame.

SOLIMIDE® Foam vs. Other Open Cell Foam: Fire Resistance Test

Transcript: SOLIMIDE® Foam vs. Other Open Cell Foam: Water Test

SOLIMIDE® Foam is a lightweight, open-cell polyimide foam originally designed to improve safety and reduce weight in early spacecraft. It is extremely lightweight, fire resistant, and non-toxic.

SOLIMIDE® 60 Second Water Test- Despite its sponge-like, open-celled structure, SOLIMIDE® doesn’t wick or retain water, even when submerged. Even after immersion in water for a minute, little liquid has entered the foam. This means SOLIMIDE® can be applied near-constant moisture and liquids without decomposing, losing buoyancy, wicking, or retaining liquid weight. Densified SOLIMIDE® shares the same excellent qualities as regular SOLIMIDE®, with additional mechanical and thermal performance benefits.

Competitive Material 60 Second Water Test- Competitive open-celled foams absorb fluids (as seen by the immediate darkening of the foam) Retained fluid increases the weight of the foam, decreasing fuel or battery efficiency.
